5 Items a Dog Trainer Will Always Take on Their Dog Walk
Every walk is an opportunity for learning, bonding, and ensuring an enriching experience for our dog. As a professional dog trainer, preparation is key, and having the right gear can make a significant difference in the ease of each walk. Here are five items that I won’t leave the house without:
-
Treats and Treat Bag/Belt
Training treats are a cornerstone of positive reinforcement. They need to be small, tasty, and easy to handle. High-value treats, like tiny bits of chicken or cheese, can motivate dogs to focus and listen, especially in distracting environments. Having a bag or belt to keep treats in for easy access and to store your other items on the walk make everything so much easier! I love the DOOG Neosport Hip Belt or Walkie Belt. -
Harness
A good harness can allow for freedom of movement and an even spread of pressure across the body which is essential for a stress-free walk. A properly fitted one can help manage pulling and prevent injury, like the DOOG Neotech Harness. -
Long Leash
A longer leash is beneficial for dog walks as it allows for greater exploration, aids in recall training, helps reduce pulling, promotes safe socialisation, and offers flexibility in training exercises. It provides dogs with more freedom while maintaining control and safety. The DOOG Dog Training Leash is the perfect example. -
Water and Portable Bowl
Hydration is important, especially on warm days or during long walks. A portable water bowl and a water bottle like the DOOG 3 in 1 Water Bottle makes it easy to keep hydrated. -
Pick Up Bags
Responsible dog ownership includes cleaning up after your dog. Pick up bags are essential for maintaining cleanliness and showing respect for public spaces.
By being well-prepared, dog owners can focus on helping their dogs learn and grow, making each walk a productive and fun experience!
